While it semi focuses on MOH and DSC awards it blends well the over all history of these covert operations in excellent detail.

This book was amazing. I bought both the hardback and kindle edition. This book chronicles the history of MACV-SOG Forward Operating Base 2. This FOB started out as part of CCN and was later reorganized into it's own command CCC. It ended up being one of the most decorated units in the U.S. military ever.T he exploits of the men who ran cross border operations during Vietnam war are impressive to put it mildly. Thank you to all the men who put so much on the line in the face of such grim odds. I really hope the author will write a volume about the other FOBs . I highly recommend this book.

If you are a SOG enthusiast this book is for you. Outstanding detail and stories. The MOH stories and achievements are very interesting.. Thank God for men like them.

For five years in the heart of the Vietnam War, the U.S. Army's Special Forces ran covert reconnaissance missions into the tri-border area where South Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia meet. Their objective was to get "eyes-on" the North Vietnamese supply infrastructure known as the Ho Chi Minh Trail, and provide intelligence for targeting. It is the thesis of author Stephen Moore that the small unit that ran these missions was, for its size, the most highly decorated and lethal of the war. The missions were incredibly dangerous, and the men who executed them often paid a high price.The author has put together a roughly chronological narrative of the men and their missions. The narrative, based heavily on interviews with surviving members, reads like a series of breathless news accounts. The missions themselves were highly dangerous and often terrifying for the participants. It is altogether amazing that any of them survived the war, let alone achieve their undeniable level of success. Very highly recommended to students of the war and to members of the special operations community.

Amazing. If you were not there, you will never believe it. If you were there, it will bring back the heebie-jeebies like it was yesterday. I was not there on the ground, where it really happened, but we flew west across the fence with some of these guys, put them in and pulled them out, and got away with it. Read this.

What these men accomplished through training and passing on info to each other after each missions success or failure to adapt to the ever changing battlefield is truly hard to comprehend. An incredibly well researched book that is a must read if one is interested in the accomplishments of some of our military's bravest of the Vietnam war.

For the pedestrian reader there maybe too many characters to keep everyone straight. I was there (pages: 187-188, 194-195), and the memories were so strong, I had to stop reading.

A great jump back into history, telling a story about the history of the Vietnam War that was unknown to the public.
